elton john lyrics danielWhat is the meaning behind the lyrics of Elton John's song...Daniel?

I've heard so many variations.
I have no clue but I bet Elton was getting down with him.
"The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin, Elton's writing partner. When Elton wrote the music for it, he chopped off the last verse because he thought the song was already too long. This completely changed the meaning of the song, as the deleted verse explained that "Daniel" was a Vietnam Vet who returned home after the war, lost his eyesight, and decided to leave America and go to Spain. With the last verse chopped off, it became a fairly vague story of 2 brothers who part ways." <songfacts.com>

According to an interview with Bernie Taupin, the song was loosely based on a story which had appeared in Newsweek after the Vietnam war. The song is about this guy who goes home after the war to the small town from which he came. All he wanted to do was put the whole thing behind him and get back to the life he had before --but because it was a small town, the citizens wanted to make a war hero of him, not allowing him to forget --in fact, forcing him to constantly remember. He decides that, in order to put the war behind him for good, he must leave everything and everyone, and ends up going supposedily to Spain. The song is sung from the perspective of Daniel's younger brother who watches Daniel's plane rise in the skelton john lyrics daniely as it leaves him behind.

The song was written and recorded the same day. Taupin wrote the lyrics one morning at the recording studio and brought them downstairs to Elton, who put music to it and recorded it with the band that day.
Elton John himself said it was about The Vietnam War
I thought it was about his brother
u know it but u dont want to let us know

it was not written by elton john, therefore had no relative meaning.
Not sure, but I do like the name Daniel. Elton John is pretty interesting. I like the one about Maralin Monroe.
I read somewhere that it's about a pain of jeans he had in the early 70's. Those must have been some really cool jeans, man. Seriously.
It is about a vietnam vet, which was already mentioned. Dude, what is up w/ brandidy56. Lighten up chickee.
Bernie Taupin (Elton John's lyricist) wrote the song Danielton john lyrics danielel as a tribute to Vietnam vets, who at that time were returning home. "Daniel" is a fictional character. Bernie wanted to pay tribute to the vets and the song is about a man who returns home to a small town and wants to get back to his regular life. The story is told through his brother. The town wants to make a hero out of him, and so he decides to leave and go to Spain.

When it was first released, it was thought to be a "gay anthem" song, which wasn't true. Elton had eliminated the last verse, which explained the song, because it didn't fit.

Unlike some this song has a "special" moment for me. My aunts boy "Danny" dies of SIDS when 3 months old. After we buried his tiny casket we had a get-together at her house. The stereo was on in the room and this song came on."Daniele's leaving tonight on a plane".......everyone in the room welled up in tears, a moment I will not forget.

It's cool you asked this today Sin, helps me to think back on it.
dont know and dont care
The only person that can answer this is Elton John. Are you actually trying to get the meaning of a song that someone else wrote from people who have only listened to the song. What a stupid question...
