I've also noticed my cat likes me to rub his entire head fairly roughly in the morning. If I don't do it rough enough, he pushes against me, to encourage me to do it harder. When I finally do it rough enough, his entire body just loses all tension and he purrs like crazy. I know he has sweat glands on his face, etc., but this seems more than just simple marking of territory.
Part of it is marking territory because of the glands in their cheeks, paws, etc. But they also just like to be scratched there. My cat can get pretty rough and demanding if I ignore her, resorting to petting herself against me. It feels good and she's making sure I'm still herswhy cats don't purr.
Why does your cat push its head against you?
this is called "head butts". This is a cat's way of showing affection. Some cats will turn their head, and push it against a human (or another cat).
Why does your cat rub up against you?
Cats have scent glands along the tail, on each side of their head, on their lips, base of their tail, chin, near their sex organs, and between their front paws. They use these glands to scent mark their territory. When the cat rubs you, he is marking you with his scent, claiming you as "his." Too, he is picking up your scent. Cats rub up against furniture or doorways for the same reason -why cats don't purr to mark the item as "his". (Urine spraying is also a territorial marking, by the way.)
hope this help; i'm a cat lover too.
i personally just think they like the feel of it, if not to mark territory. just like people like to scratch itches! i know that even my cat likes his behind scrached, on his back.
Cats have scent glands on their head, as well as their behind. They rub these areas to mark their territory. They are doing the same to you, marking you as their territory.
good question. lol i heard somewheres that they are trying to get pet, and marking they're territory. my cat does the same
